La Gauche est morte! Vive la Gauche!
La Société Affilée de Platypus, fondée en décembre 2006, organise des groupes de lecture, des événements publics, des conférences, de la recherche et du journalisme axés sur les problèmes et les tâches hérités et non résolus de la "vieille" gauche (années 1920-30), de la "nouvelle" gauche (années 1960-70) et de la gauche "post-politique" (années 1980-90) pour les possibilités d'une politique émancipatrice aujourd'hui.

In a short talk followed by open Q&A, we will introduce Platypus' perspective on history and situate Marxism in the context of a broader history of the unfolding of social freedom. In the mid-19th century, Marx and Engels famously observed that a "spectre was haunting Europe: the spectre of Communism." 170 years later, it is Marxism itself that haunts us while capitalism remains.
What does it mean that Marx and Marxism still appeal while political movements for socialism are weak or non-existent? What were Marxism's original points concerning radical possibilities for freedom that might still speak to the present?
